Orford Castle

Sunset at Orford

Things to do in and around Orford, Suffolk

There is so much to do in Orford it would take up a whole website, but here are a few of our favourites:

Orford Castle built in the 12th century is well worth a visit combine it with a brisk walk along the river wall to clear your lungs of that nasty urban pollution!

Snape Maltings, the home of the well known Aldeburgh Festival is within easy reach and the shops there have something to suit all tastes such as arts, crafts, home and garden and boutiques.

Take a brunch trip on the river in Lady Florence and enjoy a full cooked breakfast with a glass of champagne whilst cruising past the Ness and perhaps spotting our famous Avocets.

Orford is lucky enough to have a good village shop, a butchers, Richardson's Smokehouse and the Ore gift shop; so you could stay in Orford and never use your car to drive anywhere!!

If you like eating out Orford has plenty to offer including locally caught fish at the Butley Oysterage or great pub grub and a pint of Adnams Broadside at the Jolly Sailor or Kings Head. For a truly splendid dinner, you must try the Crown & Castle but please book in advance.

Further afield, try what we think is the best ice cream in East Anglia at Ives 160 High Street Aldeburgh, or great shopping (for grown up girls) at Collen & Clare, Market Place, Southwold, Suffolk IP18 6ED.
